Food Waste: 8th meeting of the EU Platform
Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, in charge of Health and Food Safety, addressed the members of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste at its 8th meeting, where the recently adopted Farm to Fork strategy was presented. The work carried out on ensuring sustainability in food systems at international level was discussed as were the planned activities for the 1st International Day on Food Losses and Food Waste, on 29 September 2020. Members also shared recent food waste prevention actions taken in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Farm to Fork: 7th meeting of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare to discuss proposed actions
On Monday 15 June, Health and Food Safety Commissioner, Stella Kyriakides, spoke at the EU Platform on Animal Welfare for the first time. The Commissioner presented the key animal welfare actions as part of the newly adopted Farm to Fork strategy, which places sustainability at the centre of our food policy. Over the next five years, the Commission will conduct an ambitious programme, including an evaluation of the legislation, and will consider options to better inform consumers on animal welfare.
Farm to Fork: Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive Roadmap published
The European Commission has published a combined roadmap for the evaluation of the EU legislation on the sustainable use of pesticides and an inception impact assessment for the possible revision of this legislation. This initiative is one of the ambitious actions on pesticides foreseen by the Farm to Fork strategy responding to the commitment undertaken as part of the EU's Green Deal to reduce the use and risk of chemical pesticides in order to address important public concerns.
